MIT-WPU, VLSI Society to Propel India’s Semiconductor Startup Ecosystem

MIT World Peace University (MIT-WPU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the VLSI Society of India. The collaboration aims to accelerate innovation, entrepreneurship, and talent development in the semiconductor and VLSI (Very-Large-Scale Integration) domains, with a strong focus on nurturing startups.MIT-WPU MoU, VLSI Society of India MoU to Nurture Startups

The agreement marks a major academic-industry synergy, combining MIT-WPU’s educational and research excellence with the VLSI Society’s domain leadership and industry network.

The partnership is designed to catalyze semiconductor-related startups by providing technical mentorship, incubation support, research collaborations, and hands-on industry exposure for students and young entrepreneurs.

Key Objectives of the MoU

  • Establish a Center of Excellence (CoE) in VLSI and semiconductor innovation at MIT-WPU.

  • Facilitate industry-certified training programs and skill-building workshops aligned with national semiconductor goals.

  • Promote startup incubation and acceleration by linking student-led projects to real-world market needs.

  • Support faculty and student research through joint projects, publications, and access to state-of-the-art design tools.

  • Create a talent pipeline for the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) by fMIT-WPU MoU, VLSI Society of India MoU to Nurture Startups tering deep-tech capabilities among students.

The VLSI Society of India, an influential body comprising professionals from academia, research, and industry, echoed the sentiment. Representatives highlighted that nurturing talent and promoting indigenous design capabilities are essential to India’s long-term semiconductor strategy.

The collaboration is particularly timely as India positions itself as a strategic hub for semiconductor manufacturing, design, and innovation.

With national programs such as the Design Linked Incentive (DLI) scheme and increasing international interest in India’s chip ecosystem, academic-industry alliances are becoming critical enablers of progress.

By aligning with the VLSI Society, MIT-WPU is not only enhancing its academic offerings but also creating tangible pathways for students to enter the semiconductor workforce, launch startups, and contribute to India’s technological self-sufficiency.

Leadership Comments

Dr. Mangesh Karad, Executive President of MIT-WPU, emphasized the broader vision behind the initiative: “We are committed to building a self-reliant India in the field of semiconductors. This MoU with the VLSI Society strengthens our ability to provide a robust ecosystem for students and innovators, equipping them to lead the next wave of semiconductor startups.”
