Infineon Launches Major Backend Manufacturing Hub in Bangkok

THE VOLT VOTES

Infineon Technologies has officially opened the doors to a highly scalable backend semiconductor manufacturing site in Samut Prakan, Bangkok, cementing a critical new hub in the global supply chain.

The inauguration of the new semiconductor manufacturing site was attended by Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Infineon Chief Operations Officer Alexander Gorski, highlights a strategic move to diversify the chipmaker’s footprint in Southeast Asia.

As global semiconductor demand continues to surge on the back of digitalization and the green energy transition, Infineon is positioning the facility to ensure resilient capacity for its customers worldwide.

Starting with its initial Module A building, the new facility currently employs about 350 workers. However, the greenfield site was built with massive expansion in mind. The campus has the runway to scale up to five modules over time, a growth trajectory that could eventually make Bangkok one of Infineon’s largest backend manufacturing operations globally and push the near term headcount to around 1,000 employees.

On the technical front, the Bangkok semiconductor manufacturing site is fully equipped to handle complex semiconductor solutions tailored for the automotive, industrial, and energy infrastructure markets. The facility covers the entire spectrum of backend manufacturing and wafer testing, relying heavily on advanced cleanrooms, deep automation, and a robust digital manufacturing backbone.

The German semiconductor major also built sustainability directly into the foundation of the new site. The Bangkok fab runs entirely on green electricity, utilizes extensive water recycling and rainwater collection systems, and generates its own renewable energy through on site solar panels to continuously drive down the carbon footprint of its manufacturing processes.
