With yet another first for the industry, Murata Manufacturing is pushing the boundaries of automotive noise suppression technology. The company’s new BLM15VM series of automotive-compliant chip ferrite beads, which use patented material technology and enhanced structural design, provide wide-band noise suppression for high-frequency (5.9GHz) 5G vehicle-to-everything (5G-V2X) applications with high impedance. July 2025 is when mass production is expected to start.
High-frequency wireless communication has become more prevalent in the automotive industry in recent years. Distribution of content for audio, navigation, and other infotainment systems is its main use.
For the connected car to support ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance networks) and eventually autonomous driving, it becomes imperative to improve sensitivity and noise suppression in these sophisticated high-frequency communication networks.
It is crucial to choose components that fit the noise frequency band since RF inductors, which are commonly used for noise suppression in sub-6GHz transmission, have a restricted frequency band at high impedance.
The BLM15VM series’ wide high-frequency band at high impedance makes it simple to suppress noise in a variety of frequency bands with a single device. The chip ferrite beads in the sequence will usually achieve impedance values of 1000? even at 5.9GHz.
The BLM15VM series greatly increases the reception sensitivity in V2X communication in the 5.9GHz bands for autonomous driving and the stable operation of dedicated short-range communication (DSRC) based control systems, operating in the 5.8GHz band, for enhanced road safety by enabling error-free high-frequency communication, which is essential for autonomous driving.
Additionally, this product can increase sensitivity and reduce noise in consumer communication equipment because Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7, the wireless LAN communication protocols, also employ the sub-6GHz range.
The AEC-Q200-compliant BLM15VM series of chip ferrite beads from Murata supports operating temperatures between -55 to 150°C and is supplied in a compact 0402-inch size (1.0×0.5mm). Murata is committed to expanding its lineup to meet market needs.
