Vishay Shrinks TVS Protection Without Sacrificing Power

Vishay Intertechnology has introduced four series of 3000 W unidirectional and bidirectional PAR and TRANSZORB surface-mount transient voltage suppressors (TVS) in its new DFN6546A package with wettable flanks.

Designed for space-conscious industrial and automotive applications, the Automotive Grade T3KNxxA and T3KNxxCA series are AEC-Q101 qualified and support operation at temperatures up to +185 °C. The 3KDFNxxA and 3KDFNxxCA series meet the LL15i Industrial Reliability Qualification.

The DFN6546A is the newest package in Vishay’s Power DFN family. With a compact 6.5 mm x 4.6 mm footprint and a very low typical height of 0.88 mm, it helps make better use of PCB space. Its advanced construction and die-placement technology also allow for higher copper content and larger chip sizes, which translates into stronger performance.

Compatible with the SMPC (TO-277A) footprint, these diodes deliver twice the power dissipation with a 20% lower profile. Compared with SMC (DO-214AB) devices, they offer the same power dissipation while cutting volume by 76%.

These TVS devices are designed to protect sensitive electronics from voltage transients caused by inductive load switching and lightning.

Typical uses for the AEC-Q101 qualified T3KNxxA and T3KNxxCA PAR series include ADAS, lidar, cameras, infotainment and sensor systems, DC/DC converters, battery management systems, onboard chargers, electric power steering, traction inverters, central control units, and electric motor drives.

The industrial-grade 3KDFNxxA and 3KDFNxxCA TRANSZORB series are suited for robot control boards, process and flow control instruments, automation systems, generator start controllers, 60 kW energy storage systems, server power modules, consumer entertainment devices, telecom equipment, and medical systems.

For these applications, the devices provide strong clamping performance, with maximum clamping voltages ranging from 16.7 V to 33.2 V for the T3KNxxA and 3KDFNxxA series, and from 16.7 V to 137 V for the T3KNxxCA and 3KDFNxxCA series.

The wettable flanks on the DFN6546A package also support automatic optical inspection, removing the need for X-ray inspection.

Compact 3000 W TVS Diodes by Vishay For Automotive The Volt PostBuilt for automated placement, the components offer an MSL rating of 1 under J-STD-020 and a maximum peak reflow temperature of 260 °C. They are RoHS-compliant, halogen-free, and feature matte tin-plated leads that meet JESD 201 Class 2 whisker testing requirements.
