Everspin, Microchip Partner to Expand MRAM Manufacturing

THE VOLT VOTES

Everspin Technologies has announced a long-term manufacturing partnership with Microchip Technology to boost production capacity and secure a stronger, more resilient supply chain for its MRAM and TMR sensor products.

Under an initial 10-year agreement, extendable in two-year increments, Everspin will expand its onshore manufacturing footprint through Microchip’s fabrication facility in Oregon.

The new “copy exact (plus)” MRAM line will replicate Everspin’s existing production setup in Chandler, Arizona, enabling consistent output for both MRAM and Tunnel Magnetoresistive (TMR) sensor products.

As part of the arrangement, Everspin will deploy its proprietary magnetic technology and proven manufacturing processes within the Microchip fab, while retaining full ownership of its IP and process know-how.

Microchip will provide foundry services and production capacity to support Everspin’s growth trajectory. The collaboration is backed by Everspin’s solid financial position and its focus on scaling advanced magnetic memory technologies.

The agreement offers several strategic advantages for Everspin and its customers, including:

  • Expanded wafer capacity to meet future production demands
  • A secure, onshore second source for MRAM and TMR products
  • Continued supply assurance through the next decade
  • Enhanced opportunities to advance MRAM R&D for next-generation workloads
  • ITAR-compliant wafer processing capabilities within U.S. borders

Everspin will continue manufacturing MRAM and TMR sensor wafers at its Chandler, Arizona facility, co-located with NXP. The company plans to leverage over two decades of Magnetoresistive Random-Access Memory production experience from this site to ensure a smooth technology transfer and rapid process ramp-up at Microchip’s Oregon fab.

First products from the Everspin-Microchip collaboration are expected to ship in the second half of 2027, marking a new phase of growth for Everspin’s magnetic memory solutions.
