Tria Adds Yocto, Windows 11 IoT, Android 16 to Qualcomm Embedded Boards

THE VOLT VOTES

Tria Technologies, an Avnet company focused on embedded compute boards, systems, and HMIs, has broadened operating system support across its Qualcomm-based hardware. Developers can now choose between Yocto Linux, Windows 11 IoT, and the upcoming Android 16 all running on the same hardware platform, giving design teams far greater flexibility and reuse across projects.

Yocto Linux

Tria’s Yocto Linux release is built on Qualcomm Linux 1.7 as the platform BSP and the Linux 6.6 LTS kernel. The full software stack can be built and customized using the Yocto “Scarthgap” framework and MSC LDK, complete with the tools, drivers, and software components needed for efficient application deployment.

By aligning with an upstream Linux LTS kernel, Tria ensures access to regular security patches and stronger vulnerability management, helping customers support long?term maintainability and progress toward Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) compliance.

As Linux remains the dominant OS in embedded and industrial markets, this release reinforces Tria’s position in embedded solutions and continues to anchor its ARM software strategy.

Windows 11 IoT on ARM

The company is now shipping boards that run Windows 11 IoT on ARM, based on the Qualcomm UEFI bootloader. This brings Windows-based applications into embedded and industrial environments, breaking a long-standing reliance on x86 designs.

Customers can migrate existing Windows systems without sacrificing compatibility, while taking advantage of lower power consumption and reduced system cost.

The release also adds support for AMI UEFI Firmware, unlocking features such as NVMe boot, with additional extensions scheduled for later this year.

Support for  Android 13 is already available to Tria customers, and Android 16 is planned for Q4 2026.

The new Android release brings proven mobile capabilities into long?lifetime industrial applications such as rugged tablets and field service devices used in oil and gas, robotics, and other harsh environments.

Across this Android portfolio, Tria’s full set of interfaces and features are supported as standard, giving designers a robust, production-ready platform out of the box.

Leadership Comments

“With an unprecedented range of support, Tria customers can choose the operating system that best suits their application while unlocking the benefits of ARM-based hardware,” said Christian Bauer, Product Marketing Manager at Tria Technologies. “Each OS offers distinct advantages. By providing support across our range of Qualcomm boards, customers can retain their preferred operating system while enjoying improved performance and efficiency, broader application potential, and integrated AI acceleration at competitive price points.”

“We continue to lead the industry when it comes to options, quality, and versatility,” continues Bauer. “Our focus is on customer enablement, delivering the solutions and flexibility needed to design the solutions of tomorrow. This announcement marks a key milestone for embedded development. Never before have customers had such unbridled access to operating systems across standardized hardware.”

Ubuntu support is also available upon request.
