Aeva Technologies (AEVA) has introduced its newest sensor, the Atlas Orion 4D LiDAR, designed specifically for smart infrastructure, traffic management, and security applications.
Built around Aeva’s frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) 4D technology, the Atlas Orion adds velocity data to traditional distance measurements — delivering both position and movement insights in real time.
Key Highlights Include:
-
Long-range detection: Up to 500 meters for vehicles, 200 meters for vulnerable road users like pedestrians or cyclists.
-
Wide 120° field of view and ultra-fine angular resolution at 0.05° x 0.05°, enabling full intersection coverage with just two units.
-
Single-box design incorporating Power-over-Ethernet (PoE++), simplifying installation with just one cable for both power and data.
-
Durable and reliable, meeting NEMA-TS2 traffic signal control standards, built to withstand harsh outdoor environment.
-
Low-light, glare-resistant performance, able to operate in challenging lighting and unaffected by reflective surfaces.
-
Privacy-first approach, tracking movement without collecting any personally identifiable information.
Aeva confirmed the Atlas Orion is already shipping to early adopters like D2 Traffic Technologies and Sotereon.ai, both of whom are deploying it in traffic and infrastructure projects.
Aeva has steadily carved out its niche in the 4D LiDAR space. Its technology—which merges LiDAR elements into a chip using silicon photonics — has seen earlier deployments in automotive, industrial, and public-sector use cases.
Mona Rezk, Aeva’s co-founder and CTO, said the Atlas Orion “sets a new standard for smart infrastructure,” reflecting the company’s growing commitment to making cities safer and more efficient.
Analysts and investors may have taken note. One report highlights Aeva’s solid balance sheet and new product launch as a potential key driver.
The company’s market value sits at around $766 million, and revenue growth is expected to surge over 100% in 2025 — although some caution remains about its overall financial strength.
Aeva’s Atlas Orion is more than just a new sensor. It represents a clear push into smart city infrastructure—delivering actionable, real-time data while simplifying installation and preserving privacy.
