element14 has announced a new design challenge focused on smart home and healthcare design innovation, inviting engineers, makers, and tech enthusiasts to develop solutions that enhance everyday living and personal wellbeing.
The initiative calls on participants to design and build working prototypes that support healthier, happier lifestyles at home.
Projects can span a wide range of applications from addressing physical and mental health needs to introducing intelligent systems that simplify daily routines.
To support development, five selected challengers will receive complimentary component kits. Participants will also be required to document their progress through blog posts and share their final builds on the element14 Community platform. Entries will be judged on creativity, technical execution, and how effectively the provided components are used.
Suggested project ideas include:
- Open-source health monitoring systems,
- Athletic performance trackers,
- Elderly care and safety solutions,
- Automated medication management devices,
- Mental health support platforms,
- Interactive tools designed for children.
Winners will receive a range of prizes which inlcudes:
- The first-place winner will take home a Google Pixel Watch and a Philips Hue Outdoor Camera.
- The second-place winner will receive a Google Pixel Watch along with a blood pressure monitor,
- Third-place winner will be awarded a blood pressure monitor.
All participants who successfully complete the challenge will also receive an oximeter finger clip.

Applications are open now through 16 August. Selected participants will have until 18 October to complete and submit their projects.
