Littelfuse Launches FlatSuppressX TVS Diodes for 12V Vehicles

THE VOLT VOTES

Littelfuse has introduced the TPSMD-FL Series FlatSuppressX™ TVS Diodes, a new family of automotive-grade transient voltage suppression devices designed to help simplify load-dump protection in 12 V vehicle electronics.TPSMD-FL Series FlatSuppressX TVS Diodes by Littelfuse The Volt Post

The new devices are designed specifically to address the challenges of ISO 7637-2 Pulse 5b load-dump transients, which can expose vehicle electronics to high-energy voltage surges.

Littelfuse says its proprietary FlatSuppressX™ technology delivers a low, flat and stable clamping voltage during these transient events, potentially reducing the need for additional protection circuitry.

This low-clamping performance can help automotive designers simplify protection architectures while reducing external component count, PCB space requirements and overall system cost.

The TPSMD-FL Series is rated for up to 3000 W of peak pulse power dissipation and comes in a compact DO-214AB surface-mount package. The devices are also AEC-Q101 qualified, supporting their use in automotive applications where reliability and surge protection are critical.

According to Littelfuse, the series features advanced foldback I-V characteristics that help maintain stable clamping performance as transient energy increases. The devices also provide IEC 61000-4-2 ESD protection of up to 30 kV for both air and contact discharge.

Key features of the TPSMD-FL Series include:

  • Low-clamping performance for improved protection of sensitive electronics
  • FlatSuppressX™ technology with advanced foldback I-V characteristics
  • 3000 W peak pulse power dissipation for high-energy surge protection
  • Protection against ISO 7637-2 Pulse 5b load-dump transients in 12 V automotive systems
  • AEC-Q101 qualification for automotive applications
  • Compact DO-214AB surface-mount package for efficient PCB design
  • IEC 61000-4-2 ESD protection up to 30 kV air and contact discharge

The new TVS diodes are aimed at a range of 12 V automotive electronic systems, including zonal control modules, powertrain electronics, infotainment systems and body control modules. They can also be used across other vehicle subsystems that require protection against high-energy load-dump transients.

With its combination of high pulse-power capability, low and stable clamping performance, and automotive qualification, the TPSMD-FL Series is positioned as a compact protection solution for next-generation 12 V vehicle electronics.

Leadership Comment

TPSMD-FL Series FlatSuppressX TVS Diodes by Littelfuse The Volt Post“Automotive designers continue to face the challenge of protecting increasingly sensitive electronics from high-energy load-dump transients without adding cost and complexity to their systems,” said Charlie Cai, Director of Product Management, Protection Business, Littelfuse. “The innovative FlatSuppressX™ TPSMD-FL Series addresses this challenge by delivering exceptionally low clamping voltage performance that can help systems meet ISO 7637-2 Pulse 5b requirements without requiring additional protection devices, reducing both component count and overall BOM cost.”
