Asahi Kasei Microdevices (AKM), a subsidiary of Asahi Kasei, has launched the AK491x series of premium Audio Op Amps, expanding its analog audio portfolio in a meaningful way. The new AK4911 and AK4912 devices will be showcased at HIGH END Vienna 2026, taking place from June 4 to 7 at the Austria Center Vienna, Hall X2, Booth E07.

With the AK491x series, AKM is extending its VELVET SOUND philosophy beyond the DAC and into the analog output stage. The result is a pair of single- and dual-channel op amps designed to support the next generation of high-performance audio systems.
As DAC performance has advanced with devices like AKM’s AK4499EX, audio designers have been looking for op amps that can match that level of refinement.
AKM says the AK491x series delivers ultra-low noise and distortion, with a noise density of 0.96 nV/?Hz and THD+N of -150 dB at 1 kHz, performance levels that go well beyond what conventional op amps typically offer.
The premium Audio Op Amps also feature ±100 mA output-drive capability, helping maintain strong THD+N performance even in demanding applications such as 8-channel current summing in DAC designs.
At HIGH END Vienna 2026, AKM will showcase the AK491x series alongside a sound-field correction demonstration for home audio. Visitors will also be able to attend technical discussions and listening sessions with AKM engineers and Audio Meisters by appointment at Booth E07.
Leadership Comments
“These are groundbreaking specifications, but the AK491x series was designed with a focus on the listening experience,” said Seiko Nakamoto, Lead Expert – Audio Product Development. “Sound quality cannot be fully defined by numerical values alone. AKM’s development process placed equal emphasis on volume balance, transparency, spatial expansion, and perceived weight. The next frontier for sound quality lies in op amps that
achieve both outstanding measured performance and a qualitative musical experience ‘as if you were there.”
Availability
Samples of the AK491x series op amps are currently available, mass production scheduled to start in early 2027.
