Mitsubishi Electric India, a leading global manufacturer of electrical and electronic equipment, has inaugurated a new air conditioner and compressor manufacturing facility in Chennai, marking a major milestone in its expansion across India. The facility was virtually inaugurated by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru M.K. Stalin, alongside the Consul General of Japan, Mr. Muneo Takahashi.

Developed with an investment of approximately ?2,100 crore, the new facility demonstrates Mitsubishi Electric India’s long-term commitment to enhancing its manufacturing footprint and supporting India’s sustainable growth journey.
This is the company’s second manufacturing facility in India within two years, following the commissioning of its Factory Automation Systems plant in Pune (2023). The Chennai facility reinforces Mitsubishi Electric’s strategy of deepening localisation, building supply chain resilience, and promoting advanced manufacturing excellence in India.
Spanning 210,000 square meters, the site boasts an annual production capacity of 300,000 indoor and outdoor air conditioners and 650,000 compressor units.
The facility is expected to generate over 2,100 direct and indirect jobs, while boosting local supplier development by encouraging domestic sourcing, nurturing technical capabilities, and advancing skills aligned with global manufacturing standards.
Aligned with the Government of India’s “Make in India” initiative, the Chennai plant will facilitate greater localisation of room air conditioners and compressors, reducing import dependency and supporting the creation of a self-reliant HVAC manufacturing ecosystem.

Additionally, the facility advances India’s energy efficiency and environmental goals by producing air conditioners and compressors that meet the latest energy performance standards, helping reduce power consumption and supporting India’s climate and sustainability objectives in response to the rapidly increasing demand for cooling solutions.
Built on Mitsubishi Electric’s global manufacturing principles and powered by cutting-edge Japanese technology, the Chennai facility adopts digitally enabled, data-driven production systems to deliver exceptional levels of quality, safety, and operational efficiency.
These intelligent manufacturing practices allow for real-time monitoring, precision-driven processes, and consistent quality control, ensuring stable operations and continuous performance enhancement.
The facility underscores Mitsubishi Electric India’s commitment to responsible and sustainable manufacturing. It is designed to optimize resource utilization, minimize waste, and maintain a safe, inclusive work environment.
By blending global best practices with local implementation, the Chennai air conditioner and compressor manufacturing facility reflects the company’s dedication to sustainability, innovation, and long-term value creation within India’s evolving industrial landscape.
