Microchip Technology has expanded its PIC32C family of Arm® Cortex®-M0+ core devices by adding PIC32CM PL10 MCUs. The company states that the new adddition is build on decades of experience serving embedded applications where low power, affordability, and ease of development are essential.

A wide range of Core Independent Peripherals (CIPs), 5V operation, touch capabilities, integrated toolsets, and safety compliance are all features of PL10 MCUs.
The device family targets high-volume applications like industrial control, building automation, consumer appliances, power tools and sensor-based systems. PL10 devices offer pin-to-pin compatibility with AVR® MCUs as part of the company’s unified MCU strategy.
The integrated Peripheral Touch Controller (PTC) together with a 12-bit Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC) are designed to provide responsive performance in touch applications as well as strong noise immunity for analog signal measurement.
To enhance real-time performance and power efficiency, additional on-chip CIPs help offload time-critical, repetitive and deterministic tasks. The Cortex Microcontroller Software Interface Standard (CMSIS), which the PL10 supports, allows for modular, reusable application code to speed up development.
The PL10 family supports industry-standard tools and integrated development environments (IDEs) in addition to Microchip’s MPLAB® development ecosystem, offering developers greater flexibility in how they build, debug, and deploy their software.
Microsoft Visual Studio Code (VS Code), IAR Systems, Arm Keil, SEGGER, Zephyr, and MikroElektronika are examples of compatible third-party tools. To accelerate and simplify development, AI-driven resources like the MPLAB AI Coding Assistant offer context-aware code generation and real-time product insights.
The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 26262 for functional safety in road vehicle electrical and electronic systems is one of the industry safety requirements that the PL10 series has been designed to comply.
Additionally, the MCUs have been designed to operate from 1.8 to 5.5 volts, supporting performance in high-noise environments such as automotive, IoT, industrial automation and consumer electronics applications.
PL10 MCUs integrated Multi-Voltage I/O (MVIO) allows for simultaneous connections to devices running at various voltage levels without the need for external level shifters.
