Littelfuse has introduced the TP7.0SMD-XC Series of automotive-grade TVS diodes, led by the TP7.0SMD24CA-XC. Built around advanced foldback technology, the series delivers an unusually low and flat clamping voltage while absorbing peak pulse power of up to 7000 W in a compact surface-mount package.

Protecting automotive electronics is getting harder as designers pack more sensitive ICs into systems with low absolute maximum ratings (AMR). These circuits need protection devices that clamp close to their normal operating voltage.
Conventional TVS diodes often cannot clamp low enough on their own, so engineers end up putting several devices in series, an approach that adds cost, complexity, and board space.
The TP7.0SMD-XC Series takes a different route. It combines a low, flat 24 V clamping voltage with up to 7000 W of peak pulse power in a single DO-214AB (SMC) package. According to Littelfuse, this is the first time it has brought that level of surge capability and foldback clamping performance together in an SMC device.
For engineers, the practical benefit is more headroom when protecting low-AMR ICs. The diode can still meet 12 V and 24 V jump-start compliance requirements, without forcing designers into multi-device protection schemes.
The TP7.0SMD-XC Series is aimed at automotive 12 V battery systems, including zone control units (ZCUs), anti-reverse protection circuits, and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS).
When connected in series with a conventional TVS device, it can also extend low-clamping protection to 48 V battery systems, allowing designers to:
- Meet 12 V and 24 V jump-start compliance requirements in a single device
- Extend low-clamping protection to 48 V systems using a series TVS configuration
- Reduce total component count compared to multi-device protection schemes

Leadership Comment
“By employing advanced foldback technology, the TP7.0SMD-XC series achieves an extremely low clamping voltage that conventional TVS devices can’t match, while still passing automotive jump-start compliance testing,” said Charlie Cai, Director of Product Marketing, Littelfuse. “This gives our customers the headroom to protect sensitive ICs with low absolute maximum ratings, reduce component count, and even specify lower-voltage-rated MOSFETs without compromising on automotive reliability.”
