Murata has officially developed the world’s smallest NTC thermistor, the 008004-inch (0.25mm × 0.125mm) NCU01 series.

By cutting the required mounting area by roughly 60% compared to the previous 01005-inch generation, this new thermistor solves one of the biggest challenges in modern electronics design like getting the temperature sensor right next to the heat source.
Why Size Matters for Thermal Sensing
As smartphones, wearables, and system-in-package (SiP) modules become increasingly densely packed, board space is at an absolute premium.
When space runs out, engineers are forced to place thermistors further away from the components actually generating the heat.
That physical distance causes two major problems, delayed thermal detection and inaccurate temperature readings.
The NCU01 series eliminates that compromise. Because it is small enough to tuck into heavily restricted spaces right up against critical components, it delivers much faster, far more accurate thermal monitoring.
Zero Compromise on Precision
Historically, shrinking a component to this extreme makes it incredibly difficult to maintain stable, precise sensing characteristics.
However, by overhauling the component structure and leaning on proprietary ceramic materials, Murata achieved this miniaturization without sacrificing an ounce of performance.
The NCU01 maintains the exact same tight ±1% resistance and ±1% B-constant tolerances as its larger predecessors.
Availability
Built specifically to ensure stable operation in high-density layouts and IC packages, the NCU01 series will begin sample shipments in October 2026, with full-scale mass production slated for 2027. The initial rollout will feature 100k? and 10k? resistance values, with an expanded lineup to follow.
Murata will continue to expand its NTC thermistor lineup and contribute to further miniaturization and improved reliability of electronic devices.
