OMNIVISION has unveiled the OG12S10, a 12-megapixel BSI global shutter CMOS image sensor built to handle high-speed industrial inspection and intelligent transportation systems (ITS).

Capturing fast-moving objects on automated production lines or traffic gantries often forces a compromise between exposure time and image clarity.
The OG12S10 targets that exact issue by combining a 1 µs ultra-short exposure capability with global shutter technology, enabling clean, distortion-free imaging at up to 75 frames per second.
Built on a 1.1-inch optical format, the sensor features a large 3.45-micron BSI pixel and utilizes OMNIVISION’s PureCel®Plus-S die stacking architecture.
BSI global shutter CMOS image sensor incorporates dual conversion gain (DCG) high dynamic range (HDR) to deliver 74 dB of dynamic range, pairing a 20,000-electron full well capacity with a low 2.8-electron read noise floor.
For low-light and nighttime monitoring, the sensor integrates Nyxel® near-infrared (NIR) technology, yielding a 5x quantum efficiency boost over existing 3.45 µm offerings, reaching 60% QE at 850nm and 40% QE at 940nm.

Leadership Comment
“In situations where speed, vibration and motion are constant, maintaining image clarity becomes critical. However, not all image sensors are equipped to deliver the consistency required in these conditions,” said Kelly Yan, staff marketing manager, OMNIVISION. “Global shutter sensors, like the OG12S10, address this challenge by capturing each frame with synchronized exposure, eliminating motion-related distortions.”
