Teledyne FLIR Unveils Si2a-PD at Electric & Power Indonesia 2026

THE VOLT VOTES

Teledyne FLIR is set to showcase its latest acoustic and thermal imaging technologies at Electric & Power Indonesia 2026, including the new FLIR Si2a-PD, a fixed-mount acoustic imaging camera designed to continuously monitor energized electrical assets.

Teledyne FLIR Si2a-PD at Electric & Power Indonesia 2026 The Volt Post

The company will present the Si2a-PD alongside its portable Si2-Series, iXX-Series, Exx-Series and T-Series cameras at Booth #2501 in Hall A at the Jakarta International Expo from September 2–5.

The Si2a-PD is aimed at addressing one of the key challenges in electrical asset inspection:

  • Partial discharge (PD) does not necessarily occur when an asset is being inspected.
  • A quarterly inspection can therefore miss intermittent discharge activity simply because it is not present at the time of the inspection.
  • The fixed-mount Si2a-PD is designed to provide continuous monitoring and close that inspection gap.

Si2a-PD Designed for Continuous Electrical Asset Monitoring

The FLIR Si2a-PD can detect, locate, classify and assess partial discharge, corona and arcing from distances ranging from 0.3 m (1.0 ft) to 200 m (656 ft).

The system uses an array of 124 low-noise MEMS microphones covering a 2 kHz to 130 kHz bandwidth. Acoustic information is overlaid on a 12 MP visible-light camera image with a 75° field of view, giving maintenance teams a visual reference alongside the detected acoustic activity.

An AI-based severity assessment ranks detected events and recommends an appropriate action. This is intended to turn acoustic inspection data into a maintenance decision without requiring technicians to manually interpret complex waveforms.

The Si2a-PD is IP66-rated and supports VESA mounting, allowing it to be installed in switchgear rooms, gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) environments and outdoor substations. It can also connect with FLIR Assetlink™ for event tracking and integration with existing digital maintenance workflows.

Portable Si2-Series Brings Acoustic Inspection to the Asset

For applications where continuous fixed monitoring is not required, Teledyne FLIR’s Si2-Series provides a portable alternative.

The Si2-PD is designed to locate partial discharge in high-voltage equipment, while the Si2-LD focuses on pressurized gas leaks and mechanical faults. The Si2-Pro combines both capabilities and can quantify gas leaks involving hydrogen, CO?, methane, helium, argon and ammonia.

All three models use the same 124-microphone array and offer detection capabilities out to 200 m. The one-handed camera design is intended to simplify field inspections with minimal training. The Si2x models extend the technology to ATEX and HazLoc classified environments.

Thermal Imaging Complements Acoustic Inspection

Teledyne FLIR will also demonstrate its thermal imaging portfolio, which is designed to help maintenance teams identify electrical problems such as loose connections and overloaded conductors before they result in equipment failure.

The iXX-Series includes the i34, with 240 × 320 resolution, and the i64, with 480 × 640 resolution. Both support guided workflows directly on the camera and can automatically upload inspection results to FLIR Assetlink™ for route planning or FLIR Ignite™ for trend tracking and work order generation through a connected CMMS.

The Exx-Series covers models from the E54 through the E96. The E96 provides 640 × 480 resolution and temperature measurement up to 1,500°C (2,732°F). Laser-assisted autofocus is available on the E76, E86 and E96 models.

An optional 6° telephoto lens can also help technicians inspect electrical terminations from outside a fence line.

With the Si2a-PD adding continuous partial discharge monitoring to its portfolio, Teledyne FLIR is positioning acoustic and thermal imaging as complementary tools for moving electrical maintenance from periodic inspection toward more continuous, condition-based monitoring.

Leadership Comment

“Partial discharge is often intermittent and can therefore be difficult to capture during routine inspections,” said Darrell Taylor, Business Director for Acoustics at Teledyne FLIR. “With the Si2a-PD, customers gain continuous visibility into their assets, enabling earlier detection, improved reliability, and more informed maintenance decisions.”
