Honeywell GAPS and HAPS Sensors Now Available at Powell Electronics

THE VOLT VOTES

Powell Electronics, a supplier of connectors and other components for high-reliability applications in defence, aerospace and industry, is now offering Honeywell’s GAPS (General Aerospace Proximity Sensors) and HAPS (Harsh Application Proximity Sensors) series. The products are available through Powell Electronics.

Both sensor families are configurable, non-contact and hermetically sealed. They are designed to detect whether a target is present or absent and feature Honeywell’s patented integrated health monitoring functionality. However, differences in their electrical and environmental characteristics make each series suitable for specific aerospace applications.

The GAPS series is intended for less demanding operating environments, while the HAPS series is designed for harsh-duty aircraft applications. Both product families provide on/off outputs and can be configured with an optional health-monitoring output for the host system.

The sensors use the established Eddy Current Killed Oscillator (ECKO) sensing principle. Honeywell has also incorporated its patented Fixed Amplitude Variable Current Oscillator (FAVCO) technology to enable the integrated health monitoring features.

If a fault is detected, the sensor provides a fault output to the host system. This can help reduce aircraft downtime and maintenance requirements while lowering total lifecycle costs.

The GAPS and HAPS proximity sensors operate across a temperature range of -55°C to +115°C and support supply voltages from 12Vdc to 32Vdc. Both series offer a target response time of less than 5 milliseconds. Vibration resistance is rated at up to 20G for the GAPS series and up to 90G for the HAPS series.
