Motorola Expands Counter-UAS Portfolio with D-Fend Buyout

THE VOLT VOTES

Motorola Solutions has signed a definitive agreement to acquire counter-drone specialist D-Fend Solutions for $1.5 billion. The move brings in a company with a strong track record in counter-UAS technology, already deployed thousands of times across more than 30 countries by government, public safety, and enterprise users.

D-Fend has also been growing rapidly, with annual revenue increasing over 50% in the past three years and projected to reach $185 million in 2026.

The deal comes at a time when securing airspace from unauthorized drones is becoming a global priority. Regulatory shifts are also accelerating adoption. In the U.S., the Safer Skies Act, a part of the FY2026 National Defense Authorization Act now allows trained state and local law enforcement to detect, track, and, where permitted, safely mitigate drone threats.

As both consumer and commercial drones are increasingly misused, the need for precise and controlled countermeasures is rising. D-Fend’s technology focuses on isolating and safely taking down rogue drones while allowing authorized drones to continue operating. This approach minimizes disruption, avoids collateral damage, and reduces the need for broad airspace shutdowns.

The acquisition is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026, pending regulatory approvals and standard closing conditions.
