STMicro Adds 800VDC-to-12V/6V for AI Servers

STMicroelectronics just rolled out two new power conversion designs for its 800 VDC lineup, 800 VDC-to-12V and 800 VDC-to-6V, following NVIDIA’s reference architecture and building on their earlier 800 VDC-to-50V solution.

These are game-changers for AI data centers chasing higher efficiency, fewer losses, and scalable setups that can handle massive compute density for hyperscalers.

Together, they create a full ecosystem tailored to different AI server types whether it’s rack height, GPU configs, cooling needs, or training vs. inference workloads. You’ll see 50V, 12V, and 6V buses coexisting based on what’s right for each setup.

The 800 VDC-to-12V converter skips the old 54V middle step entirely. That means fewer conversion stages, less copper, lower losses, and easier integration straight from rack power shelves to AI accelerators.

Then there’s the 800 VDC-to-6V path, perfect for pushing power right up close to the GPUs. It cuts IR drops, trims resistive losses, saves copper, and nails those lightning-fast transient responses that matter big time in dense training clusters.

This all pairs nicely with ST’s GaN-based 800V prototype from October 2025 that tiny smartphone-sized unit hitting 98%+ efficiency at 2,600+ W/in³ for 50V output. They’re blending silicon, SiC, GaN devices with analog chips and MCUs across the board.
