Panasonic Industry announced that its Industrial Device Business Division has achieved certification under IEC 62443-4-1
As factory floors and infrastructure facilities rapidly adopt IoT and digital tools, connected control systems have become prime targets for cyberattacks, where a single breach can freeze production or leak sensitive data.
To help customers defend against these evolving threats, Panasonic Industry announced that its Industrial Device Business Division has achieved certification under IEC 62443-4-1, the international standard for secure product development in industrial automation.
Alongside the certification, Panasonic Industry has launched a dedicated online portal providing transparent vulnerability disclosures and product security policies. The combined move places the company well ahead of the European Union’s Cyber Resilience Act (CRA), which was enacted in December 2024 and takes full effect in late 2027.
Certified Secure from Design to Maintenance
Independent auditor TÜV SÜD conducted the third-party assessment, confirming that Panasonic Industry’s end-to-end lifecycle, spanning product design, coding, testing, and long-term maintenance meets rigorous global security benchmarks.
By embedding security measures directly into the engineering stage rather than patching issues after launch, the division aims to deliver industrial control hardware and software that can withstand increasingly sophisticated digital attacks.
Preparing for the EU Cyber Resilience Act
The EU’s CRA mandates that manufacturers build security into connected products and maintain active vulnerability management throughout their lifecycle.
To satisfy these incoming requirements and give operators real-time visibility into system health, Panasonic Industry’s new web hub establishes three core resources:
- Product Security Policy: The division’s foundational guidelines for embedding cybersecurity into its industrial automation hardware and software.
- Vulnerability Handling Policy: Clear protocol detailing how security researchers and customers can report potential flaws, and how Panasonic investigates and resolves them.
- Vulnerability Advisories & Updates: A live central hub publishing disclosed vulnerabilities, patch statuses, and actionable security recommendations for system administrators.
Looking ahead, Panasonic Industry plans to continue aligning its product lines with international standards, ensuring industrial clients can deploy automation systems with full confidence in their long-term digital resilience.
