Everspin’s UNISYST MRAM Unifies Code and Data Storage

Everspin Technologies just unveiled the UNISYST MRAM family, game-changing unified memory that’s set to shake up how embedded systems handle code and data storage.

UNISYST blends the best of configuration memory and high-density persistent storage, pushing MRAM into NOR flash territory where speed, endurance, and reliability really matter.

It’s a natural evolution of Everspin’s existing PERSYST platform, so customers can upgrade from today’s serial MRAM to higher-density unified memory without touching their architecture or software.

First Specs

They’ll launch with densities from 128 megabits to 2 gigabits, using a standard xSPI interface (up to octal SPI at 200MHz). Expect AEC-Q100 Grade 1 qualification and 10-year data retention at extreme temps, perfect for automotive, aerospace, industrial, and edge AI.

UNISYST MRAM delivers high-bandwidth reads (400 MB/s) and writes (90 MB/s), over 400x faster than NOR flash with 10x better endurance. Think fast boots, rapid updates, and rock-solid performance without flash’s usual compromises.

Key Applications

  • Edge AI: Quick AI weight updates, in-place code execution, sensor-close storage
  • Military/Aerospace: FPGA configuration, LEO satellite code storage, OTA updates
  • Automotive: Control/logging/config memory surviving Grade 1 temps
  • Industrial/Gaming: High-traffic logging where endurance = survival

Embedded World Debut

Everspin nearly two decades of mission-critical MRAM deployments makes this extension natural. They’ll formally launch UNISYST at Embedded World 2026 (Hall 4, Booth 360). Engineering samples hit Q4 2026, with more densities coming.

This isn’t just incremental, UNISYST positions Everspin as a mainstream memory player for software-defined systems craving fast reconfiguration and long-term reliability.

Everspin UNISYST MRAM for Embedded Systems The Volt PostLeadership Comment

“System designers are running into the physical and performance limits of NOR flash, especially as process nodes move below 40 nanometers and workloads become more demanding,” said Sanjeev Aggarwal, president and CEO of Everspin Technologies. “With UNISYST, we are extending our MRAM roadmap to higher densities while giving customers a practical way to start with PERSYST today and migrate to a code-and-data MRAM architecture as soon as it is available.”
