Renesas Gen6 DDR5 RCD for RDIMMs hits 9600 MT/s, offering 10% bandwidth boost and backward compatibility for AI and HPC servers.
The first sixth-generation Registered Clock Driver (RCD) for DDR5 Registered Dual In-line Memory Modules (RDIMMs) in the market has been delivered, according to Renesas Electronics.
The new RCD exceeds the industry norm by being the first to reach a data rate of 9600 Mega Transfers Per Second (MT/s).
This innovation is said to set a new benchmark for memory interface speed in data center servers and is a substantial improvement over the 8800 MT/s performance of Renesas’ Gen5 RCD.
Key Features of Renesas Gen6 DDR5 RCD
- 10% Bandwidth Increase over Renesas’ Gen5 RCD (9600 MT/s versus 8800 MT/s)
- Backward Compatibility with Gen5 Platforms: Provides seamless upgrade path
- Enhanced Signal Integrity and Power Efficiency: Enables AI, HPC, and LLM workloads
- Expanded Decision Feedback Equalization Architecture: Offers eight taps and 1.5mV granularity for superior margin tuning
- Decision Engine Signal Telemetry and Margining (DESTM): Improved system-level diagnostics provides real-time signal quality indication, margin visibility, and diagnostic feedback for higher speeds
High-Performance Compute (HPC), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and other data center applications require ever-increasing memory bandwidth, and the new DDR5 RDIMMs are necessary to meet these demands.
Renesas has worked with industry heavyweights, including CPU and memory manufacturers, as well as end users, to design, develop, and implement the new RDIMMs.
Building on its heritage of signal integrity and power optimization experience, Renesas is the industry leader in DDR5 RCDs.
