RFID built in – Eliminates the need for external modules, letting devices be smaller and more efficient while supporting contactless use cases like access control, inventory management, product authentication, and asset tracking.Connectivity suite – Comes with built-in 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, and ultra-wideband (UWB), offering proximity-aware interactions and robust global connectivity.
On-device AI – Powered by a 4 nm process with a Kryo CPU (octa-core, up to 2.9 GHz) and a dedicated AI engine delivering up to 6 TOPS, enabling real-time AI and video processing.
Software-configurable feature packs – OEMs can customize computing power, multimedia support, peripherals, and more—all upgradable over-the-air without hardware redesign. This boosts time to market, reduces certification overhead, and extends product life.
Leadership Comments
Art Miller, Vice President and Head of Retail at Qualcomm, summed it up: “The Dragonwing Q-6690 combines integrated RFID, AI, and next-gen wireless capabilities in a single, scalable platform, designed to accelerate innovation across industries including retail, logistics, and manufacturing.”
Aileen Ryan, President and CEO of RAIN Alliance, placed this launch in context: “Qualcomm’s integration of RFID … empowers retailers and logistics companies to put RAIN-enabled devices into every employee’s hands… from Digital Product Passports and circularity to automated checkout, product authentication, asset tracking and inventory management.” She called it “a seismic shift” that will democratize IoT and reshape industries.
Qualcomm says device makers—including Zebra, Honeywell, Urovo, HMD Secure, and CipherLab—are already on board. Commercial devices are expected to ship in the coming months.
