This Startup Successfully Tests World’s First All-Electric Jet Engine

SiriNor, an India and Norway-based deeptech aerospace startup working on the world’s first all-electric jet engine, has conducted an on-ground test of its proprietary propulsion system in Pune.SiriNor validates world's first all-electric jet engine the volt post 1

The milestone validated the engine’s Technology Readiness Level 6 (TRL 6) within NASA’s framework, a vital step toward full commercialisation.

The engine prototype performed well in the test rig, exceeding the design objective of 40,000 RPM* and 10 kgf thrust as measured by a load cell. Its scalable architecture enables applications in Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), Regional Aircraft, Seaplanes, and Defense Platforms.

SiriNor has already secured early-stage funding from Shell E4, Mr. Alok B Shriram, and other notable angel investors. In addition, seven letters of intent have been signed with global operators of UAVs, GEVs, and small aircraft.

SiriNor is a highly technical team of aerospace engineers, propulsion specialists, and simulation experts from India and Norway, with commercial experience at Fortune 500 firms like as Airbus, Tata Vistara, GE, Pratt & Whitney, and Equinor, among others.

The power source agnostic engine, designed for thrust ranging from 1kN to 90+kN and ranges of over 4,000km, eliminates the requirement for combustion chambers or exotic materials, lowering production costs by 30% and maintenance expenses by up to 40%.

Potential component manufacturing and supply chain agreements are already underway, with strategic alliances in Pune, Bangalore, Coimbatore, and Hyderabad.

European Aviation Environmental Report

According to the European Aviation Environmental Report, aviation’s share of world carbon emissions is expected to rise, reaching around 2.5% of total CO2 emissions by 2025.

SiriNor will now aim to commercialize UAV engines by mid-2026 and certification milestones for bigger platforms like as seaplanes and regional aircraft by 2027 and 2030, respectively, with the goal of creating a prominent presence in the USD 100 billion global jet engine industry by 2030.SiriNor validates world's first all-electric jet engine the volt post 2
