Infineon Unveils OptiMOS 7 40V MOSFETs to Shrink AI Server Power Footprints

THE VOLT VOTES

Infineon’s latest OptiMOS 7 40V portfolio targets the exact pain point modern data centers, AI servers, and telecom designs face, squeezing higher power density out of increasingly tight board space.

Infineon New OptiMOS 7 40V portfolio frequencies past 1 MHz The Volt Post

Engineered specifically for high-frequency DC-DC conversion, these power MOSFETs comfortably support switching frequencies past 1 MHz in compatible topologies, making them a natural fit for both 48V intermediate bus converters (IBCs) and the low-voltage secondary stages of high-voltage 800V architectures.

What stands out here is how balanced the silicon is across key performance metrics. Infineon tuned the trade-offs between on-state resistance, output charge, and gate charge to tackle both conduction and switching overhead simultaneously.

Comparing the new source-down flagship (IQE010N04LM7CGSC) against its previous-gen OptiMOS 6 counterpart (IQE013N04LM6CGSC) highlights the generation jump:

  • Max  (at  = 4.5V): Cut by up to 33%
  •  &  Figures of Merit: Dropped by up to 35% each

Optimized for a 5V gate drive, they drop right into gate-drive ecosystems built for GaN, while maintaining a robust  maximum junction temperature rating.

Layout-wise, Infineon offers strong thermal flexibility:

  • 3.3 mm × 3.3 mm PQFN (Source-Down Center Gate): The IQE010N04LM7CG (overmolded) and IQE010N04LM7CGSC (dual-side cooling) both achieve a low  max  at  = 10V.
  • 5 mm × 6 mm PQFN (Drain-Down, Dual-Side Cooling):
    • ISCH65N04LM7SC:  max  at 10V
    • ISCH69N04LM7SC:  max  at 10V
    • ISC011N04LM7SC:  max  at 10V

Leadership Comment

Infineon New OptiMOS 7 40V portfolio frequencies past 1 MHz The Volt Post“With the OptiMOS 7 40 V, we give designers a MOSFET that cuts conduction and switching losses at the same time, so they can raise power density in the very limited space of an AI server,” said Richard Kuncic, Business Line Head Power Switches at Infineon. “It fits the secondary side of emerging 800 V DC architectures as well as today’s 48 V designs, which lets our customers move to the next architecture at their own pace.”
