Littelfuse Solves Switch Scalability with New Modular, End-Stackable DIP Switches

THE VOLT VOTES

Littelfuse has launched the C&K SDE Series, a new family of low-profile, surface-mount DIP switches designed to give hardware engineers much-needed flexibility in space-constrained PCB layouts.Low-profile, surface-mount DIP switches, C&K SDE Series The Volt Post

As industrial control panels, IoT devices, and security systems continue to shrink, finding room for configurable switch banks is a growing challenge. Traditional DIP packages usually lock you into a fixed position count, which limits scalability and can complicate automated assembly.

The SDE Series skirts this issue entirely with a modular, end-stackable architecture. Engineers can seamlessly expand switch positions along a standard 0.1-inch IC pitch, meaning you can scale your hardware configurations without triggering a complete board redesign.

From a manufacturing standpoint, the series is built to slide right into modern assembly lines. A top-tape-sealed construction means these switches can handle automated surface-mount insertion and standard washable processing without skipping a beat.

Core Technical Specs of Littelfuse/C&K® SDE Series:

  • Reliability: Copper alloy contacts with gold-over-nickel plating ensure consistent, repeatable switching performance.
  • Lifespan & Ratings: Built for low-power control, the switches are rated for 1,000 electrical and mechanical cycles at 24 V DC, 25 mA (switching), and 100 mA (non-switching).
  • Safety & Compliance: All plastics are UL 94V-0 grade fire retardant. The entire series is RoHS compliant and halogen-free.
  • Production Ready: Available in up to 12 positions and supplied in either tube or tape-and-reel packaging to support high-volume manufacturing environments.

Features and Benefits

The SDE Series delivers:

  • Space-saving flexibility enabling easy configuration expansion in space-limited designs
  • End-stackable design with a standard 0.1″ integrated circuit pitch
  • Reliable switching performance with copper alloy contacts, gold plate over nickel plate
  • Molded 0.3″ integrated circuit packing outline allowing automatic insertion
  • Top tape sealed to enable washable processing
  • Fire-safe construction with all plastics UL 94V-0 grade fire retardant
  • RoHS compliant and halogen-free for acceptance in worldwide markets

The new DIP switches provide flexibility, reliability, and safety in a compact package designed for automated assembly.

Target Markets and Applications

The SDE Series is well-suited for:

  • Industrial control electronics in industrial systems
  • Garage door systems and controls in building automation systems
  • Security and fire alarm systems
  • IoT devices for consumer electronics

Leadership Comment

Low-profile, surface-mount DIP switches, C&K SDE Series The Volt Post“When design flexibility and space optimization are critical, customers need more than a standard DIP switch,” said Jesus Santos, Global Product Manager at Littelfuse. “The SDE Series addresses these challenges with its unique end-stackable architecture, allowing engineers to easily scale and reconfigure their designs without increasing PCB footprint. Combined with its low-profile design, gold-plated contacts, and process-ready sealing, the SDE Series helps customers improve reliability, simplify manufacturing, and reduce development time in today’s compact and high-density applications.”
