Meet The New MXO AI Connect: The AI Brain For Your Test Bench

THE VOLT VOTES

Rohde & Schwarz is fundamentally changing how engineers interact with their test equipment. With the new MXO AI Connect, you can now link your favorite AI assistant directly to your MXO oscilloscope. Instead of digging through menus or manuals, you can just use natural language to describe what you need to do, and the AI will tap into its instrument-specific knowledge to map your request directly to the scope’s functions.

Let’s face it, modern test environments are incredibly complex. You are juggling advanced measurements, deep instrument capabilities, and ever-growing automation demands. MXO AI Connect cuts through that friction by merging the reasoning power of your preferred AI model with trusted, technical knowledge from Rohde & Schwarz.

The software doesn’t just act as a remote control; it actually understands your intent and figures out exactly how to execute the task on the instrument.

Zero Extra Software Goes on the Scope

The setup is highly flexible and non-intrusive. It supports all MXO 3, MXO 4, MXO 5, and MXO 5C series oscilloscopes, alongside R&S ScopeStudio. The software runs as a locally installed Model Context Protocol (MCP) server on your PC or a shared lab host, meaning zero extra software goes on the scope itself.

You can use your environment of choice, whether that’s Cursor, Claude Desktop, Claude Code, or GitHub Copilot along with whatever large language model and data handling policy you prefer. It talks to the instrument via standard VISA connections (HiSLIP, VXI-11, or TCP/IP) to keep communication safely within your local network, and you can still turn the knobs on the front panel while the AI is connected.

Here is how MXO AI Connect actually improves the daily workflow:

  • Learning & Guidance: Stop hunting through PDFs. You can pull instrument-specific documentation and application advice directly into your workflow to get up to speed faster.
  • Fast Configuration: Tell the assistant what you want to measure. It translates your natural language requests into the exact functions and settings you need, saving you from manual setup and blind searches for code examples.
  • Smarter Analysis: You can leverage the reasoning power of modern AI to review your measurement results, spot specific waveform characteristics, and understand complex data relationships.
  • Seamless Automation: For the heavy lifting, AI agents can orchestrate instrument control, write automation scripts, and iteratively adjust your code and setups until you hit your exact measurement goals.

MXO AI Connect is available right now. If you want to see exactly how it works on a real test bench, you can catch a live demo at electronica 2026 in Munich by visiting the Rohde & Schwarz booth (A4.307).

Leadership Comment

R&S MXO AI Connect, AI Assistant in MXO Oscilloscopes The Volt PostPhilip Diegmann, Vice President Digital & Power Test Solutions at Rohde & Schwarz, says: “AI offers engineers a new way to work with increasingly capable test instruments. With MXO AI Connect, they can move more quickly from a measurement task to the right instrument setup and from there to analysis and automation. This makes it easier to work with complex instrument functions and integrate them into broader test workflows.”
