India Targets Semiconductor Talent Gap at ESDM Skills Samvad 2026

THE VOLT VOTES

India’s push to become a global hub for electronics and semiconductor manufacturing is well underway, but you can’t build fabs and assembly lines without the talent to run them.

ESSCI hosted ESDM Skills Samvad 2026 in New Delhi The Volt Post

To tackle this exact bottleneck, the Electronics Sector Skills Council of India (ESSCI) recently hosted the ESDM Skills Samvad 2026 in New Delhi, bringing together the government, tech industry, and academia to figure out how to build a future-ready workforce.

Operating under the catchy theme “Skill Right toh (??) Future Bright!”, the ESDM Skills Samvad 2026 workshop dug into the widening gap between what universities are teaching and what the ESDM sector actually needs.

Backed by major government players, including the MSDE, MeitY, and NSDC, the event wasn’t just a networking session; it delivered practical tools. A major highlight was the rollout of the new ESSCI Qualification Handbook, which serves as a standardized blueprint to ensure training programs align directly with industry-required competencies.

Bridging the Tech and Talent Gap The event broke the conversation down into two core areas: the technical demands of the future, and the realities of modern hiring.
On the technical front, a panel featuring heavyweights like STMicroelectronics, NXP Semiconductors, and Sahasra Semiconductors unpacked the “Skills of Tomorrow.”

Unsurprisingly, the consensus centered on the urgent need for specialized semiconductor knowledge and advanced manufacturing skills as emerging technologies rapidly shift the baseline for new hires.

Meanwhile, the HR and academic panel featuring reps from engineering institutes alongside industry veterans, took a hard look at the talent pipeline. The discussion highlighted the friction in current recruitment trends and the employability hurdles fresh graduates face, stressing that employers and educational institutions need to be working in lockstep, not in silos.

Ultimately, the mandate from the event was clear, boardroom insights need to translate into on-the-ground skilling initiatives. If India is going to realize its broader “Viksit Bharat” vision, overhauling the tech talent pipeline isn’t just an option, it’s the prerequisite.

Leadership Comment

ESSCI hosted ESDM Skills Samvad 2026 in New Delhi The Volt PostSpeaking on the occasion, Mr. Madhvendra Singh, CEO, ESSCI, said, “India’s electronics and semiconductor sectors are expanding rapidly, creating new opportunities for skilled professionals. To sustain this growth, our skilling ecosystem must keep pace with changing technologies and industry requirements. ESDM Skills Samvad provides a platform for industry and academia to jointly identify future skill needs and develop training frameworks that improve employability and prepare young professionals for emerging opportunities.”
