VIAVI is bringing natural-language processing directly to the test lab with the integration of a Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server Framework into its NITRO AI portfolio. The update allows engineers to configure, run, and analyze complex validation tests using simple conversational prompts rather than relying on rigid scripts or complex GUIs.

The framework is actively integrated across three of VIAVI’s core platforms: TestCenter for network performance, CyberFlood for security and application testing, and TeraVM for secure access and ZTNA validation.
Bypassing the Scripting Bottleneck
Traditionally, lab automation has forced engineers to manually write scripts and manage connections across a fragmented ecosystem of measurement tools.
As network and security architectures evolve, that manual approach is hitting a breaking point.
The MCP Server Framework solves this by translating natural-language requests into executable test actions. It exposes core testing functions as standardized tools that AI agents can easily discover and run, shifting the workflow away from deep product-specific scripting and toward intent-driven validation.
Built-In Guardrails
Handing the reins to an AI agent requires serious oversight, so VIAVI built in an autonomous error correction loop.
The system can detect and self-correct tool misconfigurations on the fly, while enforcing human review checkpoints at critical stages to maintain safe operations.
By combining these structured AI workflows with real-time data ingestion, tests can adapt dynamically as results roll in, finally allowing test infrastructure to keep pace with modern network operations.
Leadership Comment
“Network infrastructure is evolving faster than the supply of specialists who can validate it, so validation has to become AI-native,” said Sashi Jeyaretnam, Senior Director, Security Product Management, VIAVI. “The MCP Server Framework helps close that gap by reducing time-to-test and operational cost while making complex validation accessible to a broader range of engineers.”
