In a major boost to India’s semiconductor and IoT ecosystem, fabless semiconductor company IndieSemiC launched the ISC-VEGA-SOM at SEMICON INDIA 2026.

The new indigenous System-on-Module combines C-DAC’s home-grown VEGA Thejas32 processor with an FCC- and CE-certified LoRa wireless module on a single board.
The breakthrough integration gives hardware manufacturers a ready-to-use building block, eliminating the tedious process of sourcing and integrating processing units and long-range wireless connectivity separately.
The module was developed under C-DAC’s Industry Support Centre (ISC) initiative, which is backed by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).
Alongside the core module, IndieSemiC also rolled out a pluggable network card variant, the ISC-VEGA-SOM-NIC. Built as a modular LoRaWAN network interface, it is designed to plug directly into both single-phase and three-phase C-DAC Smart Energy Meters.
Beyond power utilities, its simple, modular design makes it ideal for seamless deployment, long-term maintenance, and easy upgrades across gas meters, water meters, and broader Smart City initiatives requiring dependable, long-range wireless communication.

What SEMICON India 2026, with its theme of ‘Silicon to Systems,’ rightly points to is that the real impact comes when that chip is turned into something ready to be used, that is, a complete module that a smart meter or a city project can simply plug in and run. That is what we set out to do with ISC-VEGA-SOM: take an Indian-made processor and build it into a working system, with the wireless connectivity already in place. We see this as a small but real example of what ‘silicon to systems’ should mean in practice.”
