Kurita Industries has formed a joint venture, Kurita Membrane India Private Limited, with Membrane Group India Private Limited to strengthen its presence in India’s fast-growing water treatment market for the electronics industry, especially semiconductors.
The move comes at a time when demand for semiconductors is rising rapidly, fueled in large part by the growth of generative AI and the global shift toward diversifying production locations.
India is also emerging as a major semiconductor investment destination, supported by proactive government policies aimed at attracting the industry. According to forecasts, the country’s semiconductor market is expected to grow from around USD 15 billion in 2020 to more than USD 64 billion by 2026, and reach USD 110 billion by 2030. NITI Aayog’s 10-year roadmap, released in May 2026, also envisions a semiconductor value chain worth USD 120 billion to USD 150 billion by 2035.
Kurita already offers a wide range of water treatment solutions for electronics manufacturing across Japan, East Asia, North America, and Europe, including ultrapure water production and wastewater recovery and reuse. The company said that as the electronics sector continues to expand, India has become a strategically important market under its medium-term plan, Pioneering Shared Value 2027.
To capture this opportunity, Kurita is partnering with Membrane Group, which brings strong local capabilities in engineering, manufacturing, project execution, commissioning, and lifecycle services, along with established relationships with industrial customers in India. Together, the two companies aim to deliver advanced semiconductor water treatment, wastewater recycling, resource recovery, water analysis services, and environmental solutions to the electronics sector.
By combining Membrane Group’s local expertise with Kurita’s proven technologies and global experience, the joint venture plans to offer solutions tailored to the Indian market while also addressing environmental priorities. Kurita said the goal is to become an indispensable partner for the industry in Semiconductor Water treatment.
Alongside the new joint venture and Kurita AquaChemie India Private Limited, which began selling water treatment chemicals in 2024, the company also aims to raise its profile in India and build a stronger long-term business foundation.
