Marelli is partnering with the FIM Racing Motorcycle Museum (RMM), which has opened its doors to the public as a permanent showcase of motorcycle racing history and technology. As part of the collaboration, Marelli is contributing a selection of its Electronic Control Units (ECUs) developed for leading two-wheel racing championships.

The Marelli exhibit, titled “Everything is detectable – electronics,” explores how electronics have become an increasingly important part of modern motorcycle racing. The display also reflects Marelli’s long-standing involvement in motorsport and the company’s contribution to technological development across different two-wheel championships.
Created by the FIM – Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme in Mies, Switzerland, the Racing Motorcycle Museum brings together more than 40 official racing motorcycles, spanning early racing classics through to modern machines. The museum takes visitors through nine themed areas covering seven disciplines, Circuit Racing, Motocross, Enduro, Rally, Trial, Track Racing and Electric.
The exhibition is structured around three central themes: “Heroes”, “Technologies” and “From Race to Road.” Together, they highlight the people, engineering advances and technical innovations that have shaped motorcycle racing and, in many cases, influenced developments beyond the racetrack.
At the heart of Marelli’s section is a technological timeline featuring some of the company’s landmark ECUs. The journey begins in the early 2000s with the MVL4 ECU, Marelli’s first ECU to incorporate multiple processors. This architecture helped enable advanced racing functions including traction control, anti-wheelie systems, engine braking and electronic throttle control, or Drive-by-Wire.
The timeline then moves to the AGO-340, an ultra-compact engine and vehicle control unit designed to deliver extensive control capabilities. The ECU was used in MotoGP championships from 2014 through 2023 and represents a significant milestone in Marelli’s motorcycle racing technology.
Visitors can also see the REX-140, a compact and cost-effective ECU featuring a dual-core microcontroller. The unit is suited to applications including Moto2, Endurance and Special series. Its rugged off-road counterpart, the REX-120, is also on display. The ECU has competed successfully in off-road racing, including a victory in the legendary Dakar Rally and wins across several other championships.
The timeline concludes with the BAZ-340 ECU, which has evolved through more than a decade of development in MotoGP. In use in the championship since 2023, the BAZ-340 builds on the capabilities of the AGO-340 with increased computational power designed to support more advanced control strategies and high-speed communication.
The exhibit also gives visitors an opportunity to experience motorcycle racing through an interactive simulation. A graphical visualization demonstrates the connection between the ECU’s role and the motorcycle’s behavior on the track, offering a more accessible look at how electronic control systems influence racing performance.
A digital dashboard adds another layer to the experience, allowing visitors to explore the technical characteristics of the ECUs on display, browse historical images from different championships and learn more about Marelli’s involvement in motorcycle racing.
Through the permanent exhibit, Marelli is highlighting the evolution of racing electronics and the role that increasingly sophisticated control systems have played in the development of modern motorcycles. The display also connects the company’s motorsport experience with the broader technological advances that continue to shape two-wheel mobility.
