Vishay’s 40 LHE, Compact Sensor with 40mm Precision Reach

THE VOLT VOTES

Vishay Intertechnology has launched a new compact, ready-to-use linear position sensor built for high-accuracy performance even in tough environments. The new Vishay Sfernice 40 LHE uses non-contacting Hall Effect technology to deliver linearity down to ±1% (full stroke), a fine resolution of 12 µm, and a long operating life of more than 10 million cycles all packaged in a compact 35 mm x 14.5 mm x 28 mm housing.

While previous models supported electrical strokes up to 10 mm, the 40 LHE extends that range to 40 mm. Combined with its high precision and resolution, the sensor suits applications that require accurate measurement of small movements in servo loop motion control systems.

Typical uses of the new Linear Position Sensor include infrastructure integrity monitoring (such as crackmeters for bridges and buildings), digital farming (dendrometers), in-line process control, robotic grippers in factory automation systems, and medical robotic forceps. It’s also well-suited for throttle and pedal position sensing in e-bikes and motorcycles, as well as use in railway, marine, and agricultural equipment.

To ensure reliable operation in harsh conditions, the 40 LHE offers IP67 protection and can withstand vibration up to 20 g and shocks up to 50 g. Integrated reverse-voltage and overvoltage protection (–10 VDC and +20 VDC, respectively) help cut system costs by removing the need for external protection circuitry.

The device is easy to integrate into automation systems, offering both analog ratiometric and digital (PWM) output options, along with dual mounting holes that enable either horizontal or vertical installation.

As a “true power-on” device, the Vishay Sfernice 40 LHE reports its position immediately after power-up, no recalibration, re-homing, or initialization required, even after power loss. This eliminates the need for a battery backup, saving space and cost.

It can also be supplied with an optional spring return and customized to meet specific application requirements.

Availability

Samples and production quantities of the 40 LHE are available now, with lead times of 12 weeks.
