KYOCERA AVX Unveils Vibration-Proof Aluminum Capacitors

KYOCERA AVX has introduced two new series of compact aluminum electrolytic capacitors designed to deliver reliable performance in industrial environments exposed to high levels of vibration and temperature.

The new AEVA and AEVB Series address a key challenge associated with using aluminum electrolytic capacitors in demanding industrial applications like mechanical stress.

Both series feature compact surface-mount packages with innovative plastic supports that improve vibration resistance, along with specially designed terminations that increase the available soldering area and strengthen board mounting.

The capacitors use liquid electrolyte dielectrics and offer high capacitance-voltage (CV) performance in smaller packages than conventional can-type aluminum electrolytics. They can withstand acceleration levels of up to 30 g and operate across a wide temperature range from -55°C to +125°C.

KYOCERA AVX says the new series also deliver very low equivalent series resistance (ESR), low leakage of ?0.01CV or 3 ?A, whichever is greater, and long operating life. Rated lifetimes reach up to 5,000 hours at rated voltage and 125°C.

The AEVA and AEVB Series are also halogen-free, compatible with lead-free manufacturing processes, and RoHS compliant.

Their combination of compact packaging, mechanical robustness and high-temperature performance makes the capacitors suitable for a range of industrial applications. These include robotics, embedded motor control units, photovoltaic inverters, power tools, DC/DC converters and uninterruptible power supplies (UPS).

For automated manufacturing, both series are supplied on 15-inch reels and support reflow soldering and automated component placement.

With the new AEVA and AEVB Series, KYOCERA AVX is targeting applications where conventional aluminum electrolytic capacitors can face limitations from vibration, thermal stress and board-level mechanical loads.

AEVA Series vibration-proof aluminum electrolytic capacitors are currently available in five case sizes (0810, 1010, 1213, 1616, and 1821) and rated for 6.3–100VDC, 10?F–4,700?F ±20%, operating temperatures extending from -55°C to +125°C, and up to 4,000 hours endurance at rated voltage and 125°C. 

AEVB Series vibration-proof aluminum electrolytic capacitors are currently available in four case sizes (0810, 1010, 1213, and 1616) and rated for 16–50VDC, 47?F–2,200?F ±20%, operating temperatures extending from -40°C to +125°C, and up to 5,000 hours endurance at rated voltage and 125°C.
