Harness has officially acquired key assets from Augment Code including Cosmos, the Auggie CLI, the Code Context Engine, and the engineering team behind them to accelerate the push toward a fully autonomous software development lifecycle (SDLC).

The centerpiece of this acquisition, Cosmos, is becoming the Harness Cosmos Software Factory Agent.
Its mandate is to automate engineering work from the initial idea straight through to merge-ready code.
Once the code is written, Harness’s existing suite of agents takes over, seamlessly handling delivery, security testing, runtime protection, and cost management all the way into production.
Bridging Code and Delivery Context
By wiring Augment’s Code Context Engine into the Harness Software Delivery Knowledge Graph, Harness now connects what is being built with exactly what happens to it after it ships.
Before Cosmos even writes a line of code, it pulls in critical delivery context like test cases, security requirements, and past incidents.
Once the PR is open, downstream Harness agents use that codebase context to analyze risk and dependencies, looping back to auto-correct issues if a check fails.
How the Cosmos Software Factory Works
Cosmos operates as a continuous loop. When a ticket is assigned or a bug is reported, a fleet of Cosmos agents springs into action: they plan the change, write the code and tests, and open a pull request.
Each agent operates in its own isolated VM, only tagging in a human engineer when actual judgment is required, such as a design approval or the final merge. If a human reviewer leaves a comment or a CI check fails, the agent jumps right back into the same PR to fix it.
Engineering teams can deploy prebuilt “Experts” like Project Builder, PR Author, Deep Reviewer, and PR Fixer and tune them to their specific codebase.
Behind the scenes, the Code Context Engine maintains a live map of the repository so new code actually fits the existing architecture. With built-in model routing, integrations for GitHub, Jira, and Slack, and shared memory that learns from past code reviews, teams can scale autonomous coding safely across the entire organization.
Completing the Autonomous SDLC
Cosmos handles the front end of the pipeline—idea to code. The existing Harness platform takes that reviewed pull request the rest of the way:
- Software Delivery Agent moves changes safely to production
- Security Testing Agent finds and fixes risk before production
- Runtime Protection Agent protects applications, APIs, and AI in production
- Cost Management Agent controls and optimizes cloud and AI costs
Ultimately, this integration brings the same enterprise-grade discipline, policy enforcement, and permission controls to writing code that Harness already provides for releasing it.
Leadership Comments
“AI’s impact on software will not be measured by how much code it generates, but by how much valuable software reaches customers,” said Jyoti Bansal, founder and CEO of Harness. “Augment Code built Cosmos to create a software factory for repeatable engineering work. With this acquisition, we are bringing code context together with delivery and production context to help agents make better changes from the start. When Harness downstream agents identify an issue while testing, securing, or deploying code, they send it back to Cosmos with the context to fix it.”
“We set out to bring AI to the entire software development lifecycle, starting with context-aware coding,” said Igor Ostrovsky, co-founder and CTO of Augment Code. “Joining Harness is the next step toward that vision. Together, we can make engineering work increasingly autonomous, with engineers stepping in only where judgment really matters. We’ve seen software factories transform how companies build software. Now, with Harness, that same transformation is within reach for every team already on the Harness platform — and every team getting started.”
