VIAVI Launches TETRA MS Simulator to Accelerate Mission-Critical Radio Testing

THE VOLT VOTES

VIAVI Solutions has introduced a TETRA MS radio base station simulator option for its field-portable CX300 communications service monitor, making it easier to fully test mission-critical TETRA radios without forcing them into T1 test mode.

This upgrade streamlines and speeds up validation for emergency services, government agencies, and transport operators that rely on resilient, secure communications.

TETRA, or terrestrial trunked radio, is a global open standard created by ETSI for voice and data communications that works independently of commercial cellular networks. It is widely used by emergency services and critical industries because of its fast call setup, high-security encryption, push-to-talk group calling, and direct device-to-device communication through Direct Mode Operation.

The TETRA MS upgrade is delivered as a software-keyed option on the CX300 and needs no extra hardware.

It supports complete TETRA MS radio testing, including transmitter parametric measurements such as power profile, RF power, carrier frequency offset, burst timing, and modulation accuracy, plus call processing and receiver BER/MER loopback, all without requiring the radio under test to enter T1 test mode. VIAVI also offers migration support for users of the legacy 3920B platform.

The CX300 covers all major LMR/PMR protocols, including TETRA, P25, DMR (MOTOTRBO), and NXDN. It integrates spectrum analysis, signal generation and analysis, cable and antenna analysis, a 2-port 1-path VNA, power measurement, audio analysis, and VIAVI AutoTest automated alignment into a single field-portable platform.

“VIAVI has been the benchmark for TETRA radio testing for more than two decades, and the CX300 TETRA MS option is the next step in that tradition,” said Wayne Wong, Director of Product Management, Radio Test, VIAVI. “This upgrade lets technicians test a TETRA mobile station the way it actually operates in the field, registering to a base station without requiring any special test mode on the radio.”
