Microchip Technology has introduced the EX-423 Evacuated Miniature Crystal Oscillator (EMXO), a compact, low-power timing solution built for applications where stability, accuracy, and long-term reliability are critical.
Expanding on its EX-421 lineup, the new EX?423 delivers strong RF performance in a space-saving 13 mm x 13 mm package, making it well suited for designs with tight size and power constraints.
Designed for harsh and demanding environments, the EX-423 is sealed in an ultra-high vacuum to improve thermal insulation and enhance frequency stability.
Its quartz crystal features a four-point mounting structure that boosts shock resistance and minimizes sensitivity to vibration, making it a solid fit for applications such as GPS/GNSS tracking, military radios, medical devices, Ocean Bottom Node (OBN) seismic systems, test and measurement equipment, and satellite communications.
The oscillator combines ultra-low phase noise with precise temperature control, delivering strong short-term stability (Allan deviation), quick warm-up, and reliable long-term frequency performance.
It operates across a standard 10–20?MHz frequency range, consuming about 1W during warm-up and dropping to as low as 0.2W at +25?°C in steady-state operation helping extend battery life while maintaining a clean and stable signal.
