MediaTek, Samsung Hit Industry-First 670 Mbps 5G Uplink

THE VOLT VOTES

MediaTek and Samsung have achieved a major 5G milestone, successfully completing the industry’s first test of a 3Tx 5-layer uplink configuration. Powered by MediaTek’s M90 5G modem platform and Samsung’s advanced network technology including virtualized RAN (vRAN), Massive-MIMO radios (MMU), and Macro radios, the joint demonstration sets a new benchmark for 5G uplink performance.

Building on MediaTek’s earlier 3Tx breakthrough, this trial combined three transmit antennas with a multi-band setup, n66 (1.7 GHz) as the primary cell, paired with dual n77 (3.7 GHz) carriers across five uplink layers.

The result accumulates to a remarkable 670 Mbps total uplink throughput. The n66 band ran on 30 MHz bandwidth while n77 utilized a combined 200 MHz, delivering industry-leading speed and efficiency.

This achievement by MediaTek and Samsung unlocks richer cloud applications and more immersive experiences while significantly boosting FWA performance through faster uplink peak speeds.

The gains come from pairing MediaTek’s latest 5G chipset platform with Samsung’s network solutions, which optimize resource allocation, manage multiple frequency bands, and serve multiple users simultaneously.

Samsung’s fully software-based vRAN delivers flexibility and scalability, while its radios provide robust coverage and capacity with minimal interference. The MMUs further enhance spectral efficiency by leveraging advanced MIMO technology to handle multiple data streams at once.

MediaTek’s 3Tx antenna technology combined with Samsung’s 5-layer uplink architecture validated dramatic improvements in spectral efficiency and transmission performance. The result is smooth, low-latency connectivity that delivers a more reliable experience for data-intensive activities as our ever-connected world continues to evolve.

Leadership Comments

“This successful validation with Samsung represents a transformative milestone for the MediaTek 5G platform,” said Dr. HC Hwang, General Manager of Wireless Communication Systems & Partnerships at MediaTek. “As the needs for ultra-high-Maiden 3Tx 5-Layer 5G Uplink Achieved by MediaTek, Samsung The Volt Postresolution cloud applications continue to surge, this technology will be a key driver for next-generation industry innovation.”

“By achieving another industry-first milestone in collaboration with MediaTek, Samsung continues to set the pace for enhanced uplink performance through advanced configurations,” said Dongwoo Lee, Head of Technology Solution Group, Networks Business at Samsung Electronics. “This joint test demonstrates exceptional speeds that translate into unparalleled user experiences and reliable, constant connectivity. These gains have the potential to revolutionize industries and consumer usage alike.”
