Kontron has introduced CERES-TSN, a compact, rugged managed Ethernet switch built for secure, high-reliability networking in mission-critical defense environments.

Designed for embedded deployments across ground systems and naval platforms with potential use in avionics, the switch combines time-sensitive networking (TSN), high bandwidth, and advanced security in a fanless, space-efficient form factor.
The platform supports up to 28 fully managed Layer 2/3 ports, including as many as 24 Gigabit Ethernet ports and four 10-GbE optical interfaces using rugged 38999 connectors.
Powered by Microchip’s LAN9696 TSN switch fabric, it delivers line-rate forwarding performance of up to 66 Gbps, ensuring fast and dependable data handling in complex network architectures.
With built-in support for IEEE 1588v2 Precision Time Protocol and IEEE 802.1AS, CERES-TSN enables deterministic, low-latency communication critical for real-time workloads such as high-resolution video streaming, sensor fusion, and rapid threat detection.
Target applications span combat vehicle networks, C4I/C4ISR systems, avionics, naval platforms, tactical communications, and data acquisition systems.
On the networking side, the switch supports IPv4/IPv6 routing, multicast, QoS, VLANs, and redundancy, with management available via SNMP, CLI, and a web-based interface.
Security features include HTTPS, SSH, IEEE 802.1X network access control, and optional secure boot. An optional PoE+ capability allows direct power delivery to connected edge devices like cameras and sensors, reducing cabling complexity and simplifying system design.
Built for harsh conditions, the conduction-cooled CERES-TSN meets MIL-STD-810G and MIL-STD-461F requirements. It operates across a temperature range of -40°C to +55°C, extendable to +71°C on request, and is housed in a compact IP65-rated enclosure for added environmental protection.
Designed and manufactured in Europe, the platform is ITAR- and BAFA-free and fully controlled by Kontron, avoiding reliance on third-party modules.
This approach helps reduce integration risk and streamlines qualification for safety-critical applications. The product is backed by a minimum 10-year lifecycle, along with long-term service support and warranty extensions of up to five years.
Leadership Comment
“The CERES-TSN brings together deterministic networking, high performance and strong security in a compact rugged design. It helps customers build reliable, future-ready network infrastructures while reducing costs and time to market,” said Sébastien Vitre, Product Manager, Rugged Systems at Kontron.
The new rollout is available now in a 28-port version, with an additional variant planned for later this year.
Kontron will showcase the new solution at Eurosatory in Paris from June 15 to 19, 2026, in Hall A, Booth E55.
