Gradiant is expanding its Global Engineering Center (GEC) in Coimbatore, strengthening its engineering and project execution capabilities in India as demand grows for advanced water and wastewater solutions across semiconductors, advanced manufacturing and other critical industries.
The expansion will increase the center’s engineering workforce from around 100 professionals to more than 200.
The enlarged team will bring together expertise across process engineering, detailed design and project engineering, allowing Gradiant’s India operations to take greater responsibility for engineering and design work on projects being delivered worldwide.
The move also positions Coimbatore as an increasingly important part of Gradiant’s global engineering network.
Coimbatore takes on a bigger global role
Gradiant is looking to make greater use of Coimbatore’s established engineering talent and industrial base as it expands its international project portfolio.
Engineers working at the center will have opportunities to contribute to global projects while gaining experience with advanced water and wastewater technologies, international engineering standards and multidisciplinary project execution.
The company also expects experienced engineers at the expanded facility to play a role in developing younger talent. This could create career pathways across technical leadership, project management and other global project-facing positions.
Over the next three years, Gradiant plans to continue expanding its engineering capabilities in India, with its Coimbatore and Chennai operations forming a strategic engineering hub for international projects.
Water infrastructure becomes critical to high-growth industries
The expansion comes as investment in AI infrastructure, semiconductor manufacturing and data centers continues to accelerate.
These industries require significant quantities of water, making reliable water treatment, reuse and wastewater recycling increasingly important to their operations. Gradiant’s growing global project pipeline reflects this rising demand across semiconductors, advanced manufacturing, renewable energy and pharmaceuticals.
For India, the opportunity extends beyond serving the domestic market. The expanded engineering operations will allow professionals in the country to contribute directly to complex water infrastructure projects being developed in international markets.
Gradiant builds on India project experience
Gradiant already has a growing presence in India, with projects spanning advanced water reuse and wastewater treatment for industrial customers.
Its India portfolio includes a 10,000 m³/day wastewater recycling project for a solar photovoltaic manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu. The project demonstrates the company’s ability to support large-scale industrial operations where water availability and reuse are critical.
Gradiant has also delivered an integrated facility in Gujarat for a leading U.S. semiconductor manufacturer. The project combines ultrapure water (UPW), wastewater treatment and recycling, along with zero liquid discharge (ZLD) capabilities.
The projects underline the increasing importance of advanced water infrastructure as India expands its semiconductor, renewable energy and advanced manufacturing sectors.
India becomes a strategic engineering base
The Coimbatore expansion is part of Gradiant’s broader strategy to build its engineering capabilities in India and connect them more closely with its global operations.
By combining the engineering resources of Chennai and Coimbatore, the company aims to create a stronger global delivery platform capable of supporting projects across multiple markets and industries.
