ROHM has introduced its new SDR01 Series of high anti-surge chip resistors, offering a rated power of 0.33W in the compact 0402 (1005 Metric) size. According to ROHM, this is a class-leading* power rating for resistors in this package.

The new high anti-surge chip resistors series is aimed at electronic equipment where space is increasingly limited but power and reliability requirements continue to rise. It is designed for applications across automotive, industrial, consumer electronics, and AI servers.
By delivering higher power handling in a smaller package, the SDR01 Series can help designers replace larger resistors and consolidate multiple components. This can free up board space while maintaining the reliability needed in circuits exposed to surge conditions.
The demand for compact, high-power components is growing as electronic systems become more sophisticated and power-intensive. In areas such as power supply circuits and interfaces, resistors must withstand surges and electrostatic discharge (ESD) while also handling higher power levels.
ROHM addressed these requirements by optimizing the resistive element and electrode structures used in the SDR01 Series. The resulting design allows the company to offer a 0.33W rated power in the 0402 package while maintaining the reliability expected from high anti-surge chip resistors.
The resistors maintain their 0.33W rating up to a rated terminal temperature of Tk=125°C. This makes the devices suitable for thermally demanding environments, including densely populated boards and locations close to heat-generating components. The higher temperature capability can also help simplify thermal design.
The SDR01 Series further achieves a temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) of ±100ppm/°C across resistance values from 10? to 2.2M?. By limiting changes in resistance as temperatures fluctuate, the devices can help maintain stable circuit operation and support the development of more compact and reliable power supply and interface circuits.
ROHM has already started mass production of the new resistors. The sample price is $0.04 per unit, excluding tax. The products are also available through the ROHM Online Store and online distributors including DigiKey and Farnell.
With the new series, ROHM plans to continue expanding its portfolio of high-reliability chip resistors as electronics manufacturers look to achieve greater miniaturization, higher power handling, and improved reliability.
