Emerson is pushing its AI strategy deeper into everyday engineering workflows with a major update to NI Nigel™ AI, bringing new author-level code generation to its full software portfolio.

The latest release marks a shift from Nigel AI as a supportive assistant to a true intelligent author embedded directly inside the tools engineers already rely on. Prompt-based code generation in NI LabVIEW™ and automated sequence creation in NI TestStand™ are at the center of this update, aimed at helping teams move from design to validation faster while preserving the rigor required in mission-critical environments.
According to Emerson’s internal benchmarking across representative engineering workflows, these new capabilities can cut the time and effort needed to build and deploy test systems by up to 50 percent. That kind of gain is particularly critical in sectors where product complexity and validation demands are rising sharply like automotive, electronics, aerospace and defense, and semiconductors among them.
A key element of Emerson’s approach is context-aware AI that sits inside structured test workflows rather than operating as a generic add-on. Nigel AI works directly with modular instrumentation, open software systems, configurable workflows, engineering code and structured data, generating outputs that respect real-world system constraints. The goal is clear: speed and automation without losing reliability, traceability or engineering oversight.
With this release, Nigel AI’s reach extends across the broader NI LabVIEW+ Suite. AI-driven workflows now come to NI InstrumentStudio™, NI FlexLogger™ and NI VeriStand™, carrying context-aware intelligence into interactive measurements, sensor-based datalogging and hardware-in-the-loop test environments.
For engineering teams working in semiconductors, electronics, aerospace and defense, and automotive, that means AI can now be applied consistently across the entire test lifecycle from early development through system validation and deployment, within the same ecosystem of NI tools.
Emerson also emphasizes security and governance in this expansion. By embedding AI directly into test environments and aligning workflows with regulatory expectations such as the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA), Nigel AI is designed to support higher throughput without compromising on compliance or the level of human judgment required in complex validation scenarios.
