THINK Gas Pvt. Ltd. (formerly AG&P Pratham) has successfully commissioned ABB India’s ABB Ability SCADAvantage solution, allowing for the complete automation and digitization of their City Gas Distribution (CGD) network throughout ten Indian states.
Across 19 Geographical Areas (GAs) in Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu, the network includes more than 500 CNG stations, roughly 5,50,000 registered D-PNG connections, and 17,000 inch-km of steel pipeline that connects commercial and industrial buildings.
THINK Gas has consolidated operations and real-time visibility of its CGD networks from its control center in Chennai opting ABB’s cloud-based automation technology.
In order to provide effective energy distribution from the source to end customers, ABB’s SCADAvantage centralizes and manages the natural gas distribution networks.
The platform facilitates centralized billing and price administration, aids in gas planning and reconciliation, controls flow and pressure, and enhances the accuracy and integrity of data.
THINK Gas claims that it was able to drastically cut operating expenses associated with natural gas distribution, particularly operator costs, by as much as 60% with ABB’s assistance.
Better process speeds, increased responsiveness, and more control over operational parameters throughout the CGD network have resulted from the solution’s installation.
India has announced a commitment to increase natural gas usage, as part of its wider energy mix, to 15 percent by 2030.
The country has witnessed expansion in its CGD infrastructure over the past decade, supporting the supply of cooking fuel like Piped Natural Gas to households, industrial and commercial units as well as transportation fuel like CNG to vehicles.
