Samsung and Mistral AI Target Smarter Chipmaking

Samsung Electronics has entered into a strategic partnership with Mistral AI to expand the use of artificial intelligence across its semiconductor engineering and manufacturing operations, with the aim of strengthening its position in AI chip technologies.

The partnership was announced during a state summit in Paris between South Korea and France. Under the agreement, Samsung will deploy Mistral AI’s services and solutions, including its flagship Mistral Large large language model, across its semiconductor operations.

The companies plan to develop customized, on-premises AI models designed specifically for Samsung’s intelligence-driven semiconductor infrastructure. Keeping these AI systems within Samsung’s own semiconductor environment will allow the company to process sensitive technology and operational data internally, providing greater control over mission-critical information while maintaining the security and flexibility required for advanced chip operations.

AI is expected to play an increasingly important role as semiconductor manufacturing processes become more complex. Samsung plans to apply targeted AI models to areas such as defect detection and equipment optimization, helping accelerate development cycles, improve manufacturing precision and stabilize yields across advanced memory and logic chips.

Mistral AI’s platform is expected to give Samsung access to a broader stack of AI tools that can be applied throughout the semiconductor design and manufacturing process. The goal is to use AI not simply as an additional tool, but as part of a wider transformation of how chips are developed and produced.

Samsung has also taken a strategic equity position in Mistral AI after leading the company’s Series D funding round. The investment is intended to support the long-term technology partnership and reflects growing collaboration between semiconductor companies and AI developers as the industry evolves.

By combining its semiconductor technologies with Mistral AI’s expertise in artificial intelligence, Samsung plans to expand AI-driven capabilities across its semiconductor operations. The company will continue focusing on the diverse requirements of customers across advanced memory and logic products as well as foundry services.
