Meet Renesas New 64-bit RZ/G3E MPU for High-Performance HMI Systems

The 64-bit RZ/G3E microprocessor (MPU), a general-purpose deviceĀ designed for high-performance Human Machine Interface (HMI) applicationsĀ introduced by Renesas Electronics Corporation. With a Neural Processing Unit (NPU) and a quad-core ArmĀ® CortexĀ®-A55 operating at up to 1.8GHz, the RZ/G3E combines high-performance edge computing with AI inference for quicker, more effective local processing.Renesas 64-bit RZ/G3E MPU for HMI Applications

The MPU is designed for HMI systems for both industrial and consumer markets, such as manufacturing equipment, medical monitors, retail terminals, and building automation. It supports Full HD graphics and has fast networking.

High-Performance Edge Computing and HMI Capabilities

A quad-core Arm Cortex-A55, a Cortex-M33 core, and the Ethosā„¢-U55 NPU for AI workloads form the core of the RZ/G3E. This design minimizes CPU burden while effectively executing AI applications including anomaly detection, object identification, voice recognition, and image categorization.

It is designed for HMI applications and provides two separate displays with seamless Full HD (1920×1080) video at 60 frames per second. Its output ports include parallel RGB, MIPI-DSI, and LVDS (dual-link). Additionally, there is a MIPI-CSI camera interface for applications including sensing and video input.

A variety of high-speed communication interfaces that are necessary for edge devices are included with the RZ/G3E. These include dual-channel Gigabit Ethernet for smooth communication with cloud services, storage, and 5G modules; USB 3.2 Gen2 for quick 10Gbps data transmission; and PCI Express 3.0 (2 lanes) for up to 8Gbps.

Low-Power Standby with Fast Linux Resume

The RZ/G series incorporates sophisticated power management capabilities to drastically lower standby power, beginning with the third-generation RZ/G3S.

The RZ/G3E achieves low power consumption of about 50mW and about 1mW in deep standby mode while maintaining peripheral operations and sub-CPU activity.

In order to preserve memory data, it offers DDR self-refresh mode, which allows Linux applications to quickly wake up from deep standby.

Comprehensive Linux Software Support

Renesas continues to offer theĀ Verified Linux Package (VLP)Ā based on the reliable Civil Infrastructure Platform, with over 10 years of maintenance support. For users requiring the latest versions, Renesas provides Linux BSP Plus, including support for the latest LTS Linux kernel and Yocto.Ā UbuntuĀ by Canonical and Debian open-source OS are also available for server or desktop Linux environments.Renesas 64-bit RZ/G3E MPU for HMI Applications
