On July 2nd, Seoul Semiconductor declared that since May, it has been supplying the automotive market with its own No-wire technology, WICOP, in the form of Mini LED displays. WICOP, known to be the first No-wire LED technology in the world, has already demonstrated its effectiveness in a number of applications, such as TVs, cellphones, headlights for automotive, and lighting. WICOP has now formally entered the vehicle display industry and is known for its exceptional brightness and durability, especially in harsh automotive conditions.
Mini LED are perfect for full array local dimming because of their ultra-slim display designs made possible by the No-wire WICOP technology. This provides complete support for High Dynamic Range (HDR) in automotive displays by enabling greater brightness and deeper contrast.
The display’s maximum brightness of 1,200 nits guarantees superior visibility even in direct sunshine. It also lowers power consumption, increasing the vehicle’s total energy efficiency.
WICOP is said to be the best option for vehicle displays because it also provides outstanding durability, sustaining steady performance even in the face of vibrations and high temperatures that are common in driving scenarios. Moreover, it offers exceptional economic value and is up to 25% less expensive than OLED.
As WICOP adoption grows around the world, Seoul Semiconductor is aggressively defending its patent rights for the technology, building on its established dependability and technology.
The company’s legal successes in nine different countries have resulted in disposal orders, recalls, and injunctions against unauthorized use of its WICOP technology, further confirming its position as a global leader in technology and intellectual property.

Yong-Hyuk Lee, Executive Vice President of Global IT Sales at Seoul Semiconductor, stated, “As autonomous driving becomes more widespread and vehicles evolve into living and working spaces, the importance of in-vehicle displays is growing rapidly. WICOP not only delivers superior visibility and energy efficiency, but also offers strong patent protection—further strengthening its position beyond displays and into the broader automotive market.”
