Kaynes SemiCon, Lightspeed Photonics MOU on OSAT Services

According to CEO Raghu Panicker, Kaynes SemiCon, a fully owned subsidiary of Kaynes Technology, has secured India’s first paying client for outsourced semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT) services with the signing of an important memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Lightspeed Photonics.Kaynes SemiCon, Lightspeed Photonics OSAT Services MoU the volt post

The statement, which marked a significant advancement for India’s fledgling semiconductor ecosystem, was made during the opening of Kaynes Technology’s new electronics production facility in Hyderabad.

Through the partnership, Kaynes SemiCon will offer Lightspeed Photonics cutting-edge packaging solutions. The MoU also emphasizes Kaynes Semicon’s high-volume run.

“This is the first paying OSAT customer in India,” Raghu Panicker said, emphasizing the importance of the agreement. “We will initially carry out sample runs and low-volume production at our proto line in Mysore/Hyderabad, before scaling up to high-volume manufacturing once our new facility is fully operational.”

Under the LightSiP brand, Lightspeed Photonics specializes in fusing optical interconnects with processors to produce modular compute-interconnect heterogeneous System-in-Packages (SiP). By lowering data latency, footprint, and power consumption and greatly increasing data bandwidth and performance per watt, this technology seeks to improve server scalability.

The agreement is also noteworthy because it marks India’s debut in the high-value advanced packaging sector of semiconductor manufacture.

Kaynes SemiCon’s entry into this field places the company as a major participant in the global supply chain, as the semiconductor industry is placing more and more emphasis on cutting-edge packaging technologies like silicon photonics.

The equipment required for the project has already been selected and aligned, according to Panicker. Installation of the equipment is scheduled to take place at the company’s forthcoming facility as well as at the proto line in Mysore, Hyderabad.

Apart from the Memorandum of Understanding, Kaynes SemiCon has further inked a contract for capacity building with the VLSI Society of India. By collaborating with academic institutions to offer training in semiconductor production, this project seeks to create a skilled labor force for India’s semiconductor industry. Perceptives Solutions will be collaborating with us on this deployment.

With the help of this Memorandum of Understanding, Kaynes SemiCon will provide free access to its OSAT packaging service for educational institutions that support the VLSI Society of India.

With an emphasis on workforce development and technological innovation, Kaynes SemiCon‘s attempts to help the expansion of India’s semiconductor industry are reflected in the two Memorandums of Understanding.

Kaynes Semicon is well-positioned to make a substantial contribution to the future of semiconductor production in the Indian subcontinent, having been the first business in the country to gain a paying OSAT customer.
