STMicroelectronics is leveling up energy efficiency for the world’s most power hungry applications with its latest 700V PowerGaN semiconductors.

Built for high demand environments ranging from AI servers to robotics, industrial systems, and next gen home appliances, these gallium nitride (GaN) devices deliver more power in a smaller package while pushing past the limits of traditional silicon technology.
The new additions to ST’s STPOWER portfolio tackle two growing challenges:
- Surging power consumption in AI data centers,
- The need for faster, more efficient power conversion in electrified systems.
At 700V, these devices are engineered to handle high voltage operation reliably while supporting higher frequency designs that shrink system size, cut weight, and lower operating temperatures.
What makes PowerGaN stand out is its performance edge. With low conduction losses, minimal switching loss even at high frequencies, and zero reverse recovery charge, these transistors enable power supplies that are not only more efficient but also more compact.
That’s a game changer for robotics, industrial power systems, and smart grid converters handling energy generation, distribution, and storage.
For engineers designing the next generation of electrified systems, ST’s new PowerGaN devices offer a clear path forward with higher efficiency, greater power density, and designs that fit tighter spaces without compromising performance.
Leadership Comment
“Broadening our PowerGaN portfolio with new 700V devices extends the benefits of gallium-nitride technology into medium-power and high-power applications,” said Mario Aleo, Executive Vice President, Power & Discrete Sub-Group, STMicroelectronics. “We will continue to expand the portfolio with additional voltage ratings and features, reinforcing our commitment to GaN for tomorrow’s AI servers, humanoid robotics, industrial power, and advanced consumer power applications including home appliances.”
The new 700V PowerGaN transistors are in production now and available from the eSTore or through distributors, from $0.63 to $2.25 for orders of 1000 pieces.
