Renesas Electronics Corporation has opened a new Physical AI & Robotics Lab in Beijing, China, creating a dedicated facility where customers can demonstrate, validate and jointly develop next-generation robotic systems.

The new lab will serve as a central hub for Renesas’ physical AI strategy, supporting robotics projects from early proof-of-concept stages through to large-scale deployment.
The facility brings together hardware, software, AI modeling, control, sensing, power supply and system-level verification under one roof. This is intended to give customers and ecosystem partners a platform to develop and validate complete robotics solutions rather than simply evaluate individual semiconductor products.
The move comes as Renesas expands its focus on physical AI as a long-term growth opportunity. The company established its Physical AI Division on July 1, 2026, underscoring its strategy to address the growing demand for intelligent machines capable of operating in real-world environments.
From Digital AI to Physical Intelligence
Physical AI represents the next stage of artificial intelligence, taking AI capabilities beyond digital environments and into machines that can perceive their surroundings, make decisions and take physical action in real time.
Robotics, particularly humanoid robots, is one of the clearest examples of this shift. Unlike conventional digital AI applications, physical AI systems must respond to real-world conditions while maintaining safe, predictable and deterministic behavior.
That requires multiple technologies to work together, including embedded processing, sensing, actuation, power management, software and development tools.
Renesas’ new Beijing facility is designed around this system-level approach. Customers will be able to use the lab to test technologies, validate designs and work with Renesas on the development of integrated robotic systems.
Renesas Targets the Humanoid Robotics Opportunity
Renesas believes its broad semiconductor and embedded technology portfolio gives it a strong position in the emerging physical AI and humanoid robotics market.
Its solutions cover several critical areas of robotic systems, including brain and motion control, sensing, actuation and power management.
The company is also bringing its experience from automotive and industrial applications into the robotics sector. This includes technologies focused on functional safety and edge AI, alongside Renesas 365, its cloud-based electronics development platform.
By combining these capabilities, Renesas aims to help customers build robotic systems that are safer, more intelligent and easier to scale.
The Beijing lab is therefore positioned as more than a demonstration center. Renesas intends to use it as a collaborative engineering environment where customer requirements, ecosystem expertise and the company’s semiconductor technologies can come together to accelerate the development of physical AI applications.
As robotics moves from experimental prototypes toward commercial deployment, the ability to integrate AI, sensing, control, power and safety into a single system is becoming increasingly important. Renesas is positioning its new facility to play a role in that transition.
