MaxLinear has expanded its industrial connectivity portfolio with the launch of the MxL8323x family of RS-485/RS-422 half-duplex transceivers, engineered to deliver data rates up to 50 Mbps, robust ESD and EFT protection, and broad voltage compatibility for electrically demanding industrial environments.

The lineup comprising the MxL83232, MxL83233, MxL83234, MxL83235, and MxL83236 is geared toward modern industrial control systems that require both high reliability and scalable performance.
The MxL8323x devices support configurable data rates from 500 kbps to 50 Mbps, giving designers the flexibility to fine-tune performance, noise immunity, and EMI reduction across a range of applications.
With multiple speed options, engineers can standardize platforms while optimizing performance for each node’s needs.
Key Highlights
- Scalable performance:Selectable data rates from 500 kbps up to 50 Mbps.
- Built for harsh environments:Rated for ±4 kV EFT, ±8 kV contact ESD, and ±15 kV air-gap ESD protection, along with an extended ±15 V common-mode range for stable communication even with ground offsets.
- System flexibility:Operates from a 3.0 V to 5.5 V supply and supports a 1.65 V–5.5 V logic interface—ideal for integration with a wide range of embedded systems and SoCs.
- Network scalability:Low 1/8-unit-load receiver input impedance allows connection of up to 256 nodes on a single network.
- Industrial-grade reliability:Operates across a –40°C to +125°C temperature range with advanced protection features, including slew rate control, hot-swap glitch protection, and ultra-low-power shutdown modes for dynamic system efficiency.
With these capabilities, the MxL8323x family is well suited for next-generation industrial systems such as smart factory automation, motor drives, HVAC control, building security, industrial computing, and smart grid infrastructure.
The global RS-485 transceiver market remains strong, projected to reach approximately $200 million in 2026 and grow at a 5.4% CAGR through 2033, according to Data Insights Market’s report, RS485 Transceiver IC Market Expansion Growth Outlook 2026–2034. This steady growth reflects ongoing demand driven by the rapid adoption of industrial automation, motor control, and grid modernization systems.
Leadership Comments
“Industrial systems require robust communication links that can withstand high noise, wide voltage variations, and challenging environmental operating conditions,” said Dr. Amit Bavisi, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Analog & Mixed Signal Business Unit at MaxLinear. “The MxL8323x family, which is currently ramping in production at several customers, addresses many of these requirements with scalable data rates up to 50Mbps, high ESD and EFT immunity, broad voltage?level compatibility, and support for large multi?drop networks. The flexible 1.65V to 5.5V logic?level interface enables direct connection to modern low?voltage MCUs, helping reduce system complexity, power consumption, and PCB area in space?constrained industrial designs.”
“The MaxLinear MxL83234 delivers the precision and reliability our industrial customers depend on for advanced motor encoder systems,” said Masahiro Ogura, Director, IN Product Department 3, Industrial Solution Company, Tokyo Electron Device Limited. “We’re excited to support engineers with a solution that simplifies design while enhancing performance across demanding automation environments.”
